Methodology and limitations
The inventory covers Scopes 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3 categories identified in the report. It uses the Greenhouse Gas Protocol framework and a mixture of activity and spend-based data. Approximately 1% of reported emissions were calculated from physical or activity data, with the remainder estimated primarily from financial data.
Spend-based estimates are useful for identifying broad hotspots, but they are less precise than calculations based on quantities, weights, distances or direct supplier data. Results depend on the completeness, categorisation and validation of the information provided. The report records that its automated quality controls were not passed automatically and that Nkuku reviewed the data and chose to proceed. Please read the full report for its methodology, assumptions and limitations.
Comparing 2024 and 2025
The 2025 measurement boundary was expanded to include additional sources, including fugitive emissions and the use of sold products. Because the scope and underlying data changed, the two annual totals should not be interpreted as a direct measure of year-on-year performance.
How we are responding
The findings help us focus on the areas with the greatest reported impact, particularly products and materials, freight, services and the quality of supply chain data. See our Climate Action Plan, Environmental Action Plan and Environmental Policy.
