Methodology and limitations
The inventory covers Scopes 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3 categories identified in the report. It uses the Greenhouse Gas Protocol framework and a mixture of activity and spend-based data. Approximately 2% of reported emissions were calculated from physical or activity data, with the remainder estimated primarily from financial data.
Spend-based estimates are useful for identifying broad hotspots, but they are less precise than calculations based on quantities, weights, distances or direct supplier data. Results depend on the completeness and categorisation of the information provided. Please read the full report for its methodology, assumptions and limitations.
How we are responding
The findings help us focus on the areas with the greatest reported impact, particularly products and materials, freight and the quality of supply chain data. See our Climate Action Plan, Environmental Action Plan and Environmental Policy.
