Decanters are designed to enable alcohol, such as wine or whiskey, to be exposed to oxygen and produce acetaldehyde. This in turn allows the alcohol to breathe and enhance the flavours.
A decanter is also useful for separating liquids from solid sediment.
Wine shouldn't be left in a decanter for more than 3 days. After this time, the wine can begin to lose flavour.
