Chairs & Stools

Dining chairs, bar stools and desk chairs in wood, leather, rattan and cane, made to bring comfort and character to the kitchen, dining room and home office. Choose upholstered or leather dining chairs for long dinners, woven and cane designs for a lighter look, and bar stools and counter chairs to pull up to a kitchen island. Our desk chairs pair everyday comfort with natural materials, so a home office feels as considered as the rest of the house. Many pieces are made by hand, so small variations in grain, weave and finish are part of their character.

Learn More About Chairs & Stools

What's the difference between a bar stool and a counter stool?

The difference is height. Counter stools and chairs have a seat height of around 60 to 68cm, to suit a kitchen island or counter about 90 to 95cm high. Bar stools and chairs sit higher, at around 72 to 80cm, for a bar or high table of about 100 to 110cm. Whether it's called a stool or a chair simply depends on the shape: stools have no back, while chairs have a back and sometimes arms.

What height bar stool do I need?

Measure from the floor to the underside of your worktop, then take away 25 to 30cm. That's the seat height to look for, and it leaves comfortable room for your legs. Our range runs from counter height, such as the Narwana Bar Chair with a 66cm seat, up to bar height, such as the Wamma Leather Bar Chair with an 80cm seat. Most of our backless stools sit at around 70 to 76cm. On backless stools, the overall height listed is the seat height.

How much space do I need around dining chairs?

Allow about 60cm of table width for each chair, and at least 75 to 90cm behind each one so it can be pulled out easily. Armchair-style dining chairs, or chairs with wide seats, may need a little more.

Can I use a dining chair at a desk?

Yes. Many of our dining chairs, including the Ukari leather and Iswa leather and cane designs, are also listed as desk chairs, and they work well for shorter spells at a desk. For longer working days, choose a chair with a supportive back and a seat height that suits your desk.
