Design Story

A new design for nkuku, our set of two large Cam mugs in Mocha have a beautifully rustic oversized aesthetic, perfect for generous warming mugfuls of tea. We particularly like the effect created by the reactive glaze in the kiln that adds a uniquely mottled creamy white layer over the darker base. This finish comes through during the firing process, meaning while they all share a harmonious look, each one is beautifully distinctive, and we never know quite what will arrive until we unwrap each batch. The ideal everyday mug, these will quickly become a daily morning go-to.

How It's Made

These tactile pieces are produced in a small kiln, made simply from bricks and lit by an open fire. This handmade process relies on the skill and experience of the potter. The process is time-consuming, but we believe it is well worth the wait. Our Cam pottery is handmade in southern India as part of a fair-trade project. The project was established to provide training and secure employment for men and women from disadvantaged backgrounds. The scheme now employs 40 people and focuses particularly on empowering women in the workplace.
Care Instructions

To care for your mugs, we recommend washing after every use to prevent staining. Use a mild detergent and do not leave to soak. Handle with care to prevent chipping.
