Begin by choosing a colour palette or theme, whether it’s traditional greens and golds or something playful and patterned. I like to begin with a Junto linen runner or tablecloth as a base. Its natural texture and gentle drape add warmth and softness without overwhelming the space. From here, I’m going to build the centrepiece using seasonal foliage, such as holly, eucalyptus, or even clippings from the Christmas tree. Instead of using a tall vase or statement arrangement, I suggest laying the greenery along the table. This allows you to add visual interest without obscuring conversation across the table. To add depth and a little sparkle, tuck a few baubles between the leaves, choosing ones in tones that complement your theme. Finally, bring in statement candle holders in varying heights to create drama and dimension. I prefer slimmer candles so that the light flickers gently without blocking anyone’s view, creating intimacy and atmosphere as the evening unfolds.

Tableware to Anchor Your Style

Once the centre is styled, it’s time to build each place setting, and the tableware you choose can completely change the feel of your tablescape. For a more playful, festive look, I recommend something with a subtle pattern like the Juniper Drop collection. Its hand-painted detailing adds character and a touch of fun. If your theme leans toward timeless and understated, a simpler set like the Valinha collection is ideal. Its gentle texture and organic form offer quiet elegance without competing with the rest of the setting. It’s also important to think practically: what are you serving? Whether your jug matches the tableware or the glassware, consistency in tone and material helps create a cohesive, styled look. And if you can't decide? Mix and match. A smaller jug that complements the tableware is perfect for gravy or sauces, while a larger one that echoes the glassware can take centre stage for drinks.

What sets a truly special table apart are the little details that make each guest feel seen. Start with a thoughtful seating plan, considering where conversation will flow most naturally and where each guest will feel most at ease. Add a handwritten place card, slipped into a brass leaf holder, for a tactile and personal touch. If you’re feeling generous, a lovely idea is to leave a small gift or treat at each setting. It only has to be something simple, but this helps to make the meal memorable. The Tiny Kiko decorations or Karru mini stockings are ideal for holding a chocolate, a handwritten note, or a keepsake. These finishing touches spark joy even before the meal begins and help your guests feel truly welcomed.
